Funk Zone

This is not your typical Santa Barbara project! This 12 unit live-work redevelopment on Yanonali Street is situated in the heart of the funk zone of Santa Barbara. This transitional neighborhood with roots in light industrial and terrific proximity to downtown, beaches and the train station is quickly becoming a creative eclectic hotspot for tastings and production for local wine, food, and confections. The City has even recognized and encouraged this area to develop outside ‘normal’ Santa Barbara character.  Naturally, condos are springing up for people to take part in the evolution of this new neighborhood. We took this opportunity to create 6 units – each including a residential and separate commercial unit oriented on the street or center atrium.  The bulky building facades of the three story structure draws from the neighborhoods industrial roots, while inside a generous atrium with bridges connecting the various levels moves upward to the rooftop decks with many ocean and Riviera views. These offer a unique downtown loft experience in Santa Barbara.
